The Spiral Garden

The spiral garden provides the kitchen with an abundant supply of vegetables, harvested to feed the Elders and staff during gatherings. In the Garden, three sisters grow, corn, beans and squash. We hear the story of the warriors who laid down their weapons and took on the shawls of the grandmothers to carry the baskets filled with the seeds of all good things.

We plant the garden during the Spring New Moon Planting Ceremony weaving in prayers from the sacred fire. In this way we return kindness to the land. The corn, beans and squash spiral together in the dance of earth and sky as they grow and are harvested ceremonially at the new moon in August. The harvest becomes offerings to the Elders and ceremonial fires, with prayers that all beings be fed.

You are invited to walk clockwise around the outside of the garden, offering prayers and giving thanks.
