The Peace Stupa at the Sunray Peace Village

Stupas are representations of the Buddha’s heart-mind. They are considered the presence of the Buddha. The sacred relics inside the Peace stupa include the Great Kagyu Blessing Pill which has the essence of sacred objects from all the Kagyu masters including Milerepa. Hundreds of Tsa tsas, or small stupas, were placed in the stupa along with Dharma texts including the Prajnaparamita, and many blessed crystals. In the concrete itself are stones from sacred sites from all over the world and water from all the oceans.

There are eight kinds of stupas. Ours is a Peace Stupa, transforming aggression and reconciling the appearance of discord, to energize the potential for peace among all beings. The Peace Stupa radiates blessings! It is a place to circumambulate while saying mantras or prayers, and a very special place to meditate!

History

In 1984, while visiting the valley where the Sunray Peace Village is today, Running Bear, the father of Venerable Dhyani Ywahoo, had visions of stupas up and down the road.  In 1999, His Holiness Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang Rinpoche suggested that we build a Peace Stupa, and chose the site.  The following year, Khenchen Konchog Gyaltshen consecrated the ground. Khenmo Drolma then went to Gampo Abbey to learn how to build stupas and then to India to receive over 22 relics for the stupa from His Holiness Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang Rinpoche.   She returned with Lama Palden, a renowned yogi and stupa builder from Ladak who, along with Drupon Samten, supervised its construction and consecrated the Peace Stupa in 2001.
