Tsalagi Sacred Tradition:
An Ancient Revivalist Movement

by Red Eagle

The journey home begins with an awareness that there is something more toward the understanding of self and one's connection with all sentient beings. It's not sufficient to have a genetic or family connection with the long history of one's ancestors. What is essential if one desires to journey along the beauty way is the 'how,' the way of entering the stream of knowing. The Way is as varied as crystalline snowflakes. The family and or genetic material is helpful in re-entering the circle dance of rhythm and remembrance. However, the subtle voices of ancestors, sentient advisors and your chosen spiritual teacher are critical to facilitate an understanding of the divine whisperings.

Among many people of Tsalagi ancestry and other Native American peoples, there is a desire to return to the form of traditional practice; a practice that brings about balance and enhanced spiritual evolution. In many instances, the connection to the sacred practices were broken, due in part, to the imposition of a foreign culture. Many of the 'old ways' were abandoned, forgotten or driven underground. After some internal and external struggle among the people, a return to the traditional ways were sought. But there was a problem-only a few people remembered the songs, prayer chants, dances and rituals of the ancestors. And even fewer people remembered the 'way' of the flow. The people decided to use what remained and felt that the ancestors and spirit beings would provide the rest. As a result, many wonderful things happened and the people remained within the practice of their tradition.

Many people who have chosen the ancient, sacred beauty path have discovered a reconnection to a planetary conscience--indeed to a galactic mind. This larger connection was forgotten by some in the quest for tradition, and is unfamiliar to many traditionalists. Some traditional practitioners, who find their lives and practices spiritually fulfilling, do not desire another way and oftentimes do not see its connection to their practice. We honor the way of the traditionalist and view them as our extended family.

We, the Green Mountain Band of Aniyunwiwa (Tslagai), guided by the sacred teachings passed on to our Chief Dhyani Ywahoo, seek a revival of the ancient sacred way. We practice the rituals of divine remembrance and clear mind in a way that facilitates the planetary/galactic connection. Our practices are inclusive of the ways of all Native peoples. We honor and invite all peoples to this revival of sacred practice.

Our Band strives to adhere to the ancient law of our ancestors and maintain the form of the Tsalagi culture. Our mission is; to re-establish the traditional sacred practices and teachings of our Tsalagi ancestors; to assist all people in the development of clear mind and spiritual growth; to practice the dance of universal harmony with all sentient beings toward planetary peace; and to bring about the understanding that there is only one race-- the human race. We are all united in our journey along the Beauty Path.
